Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) NJ: Recovery Starts Here
Affinity Healthcare Group offers an intensive outpatient program (IOP) in NJ for those struggling with substance use disorders, including opioid use disorder. IOPs allow you to reside at home, continue work, and spend time with your family while recovering from your addiction. We’ll even provide transportation.
Our programs combine the use of prescription medication and psychotherapy to make detox safer and more comfortable while simultaneously getting to the root cause of your addiction. Confronting this root cause is a key component of developing healthy coping skills and achieving long-term addiction recovery.
At Affinity Healthcare Group, we provide each patient with medical care and emotional support with respect to their privacy and dignity. Our multidisciplinary teams understand the complexities of addiction, and they approach recovery with compassion. If you or a loved one need professional and confidential support to break free from your addiction, contact Affinity Healthcare Group today.
Our Intensive Outpatient Services in New Jersey
The intensive outpatient programs at Affinity Healthcare Group offer in-depth addiction treatment without hindering the patient’s ability to fulfill their daily responsibilities.
IOPs include the full support of our multidisciplinary staff, access to group counseling, individual therapy, and medication management.
Group Counseling
Group counseling at Affinity Healthcare Group offers patients a network of people who are also in recovery from drug addiction. In these sessions, you’ll be able to give and receive support, advice, and empathy as you all work to achieve sustained sobriety. This kind of support can help you feel less isolated during recovery and give you a sense of purpose when contributing to the group.
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy offers private one-on-one sessions with a counselor where you can discuss sensitive matters related to the motivations behind your drug use, as well as develop skills and strategies that will assist you in your addiction recovery.
We offer various types of individual therapy, including:
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy
- Reality therapy
- Motivational interviewing
- Solution-focused therapy
Medication Assisted Treatment
Medications, in combination with counseling services, are effective in the treatment of opioid use disorders and can help individuals sustain recovery. At Affinity Healthcare Group, medications such as suboxone and methadone are provided to help reduce cravings, prevent relapse and make the patient more comfortable.
Each of these medications blocks neurotransmitters in the brain from absorbing opioids, preventing the euphoric “high” associated with opioid abuse. These medications also help ease withdrawal symptoms—such as nausea—and greatly reduce the risk of relapse and overdose.
IOP vs. Outpatient Treatment Services
Outpatient treatment services include group and individual therapy, access to resources, and function as a step-down from more intensive treatment services. The biggest difference between outpatient and higher-level programs like IOP is the intensity. Outpatient treatment appointments and check-ins are less frequent, which may not provide enough support or structure for some individuals.
In an IOP, however, sessions are much more frequent, provide more structure and support, and offer more comprehensive services than traditional outpatient programming.

Intensive Outpatient Program FAQ
The standard length of IOPs at Affinity Healthcare Group is 90 days— with 9 hours of group counseling and 1 hour of individual counseling per week; however, this length of time may vary depending on your condition and needs.
We’ll evaluate your condition before you begin treatment to determine how long your IOP should last.
IOPs allow you to receive addiction treatment while fulfilling your daily responsibilities. You can work, care for your loved ones, and reside at home when not receiving treatment.
IOP may be covered by insurance. Most major insurance companies will cover IOP for substance rehabilitation, including Medicare and Medicaid.
Good candidates for IOP usually have family or work commitments that prevent them from entering into residential care or are court-ordered to take an outpatient substance abuse program. Candidates must have a safe and supportive home environment free of drugs, alcohol, and other addictive substances. If the candidate lives with other people, those people must be supportive of the candidate’s recovery.
