Opioid Use Disorder Treatment That Meets You Where You Are
Dependency can start with a prescription after surgery or escalate from casual use. Either way, the street supply across Hampton Roads is now dominated by fentanyl, and the margin for error is gone.
- OxyContin and Percocet
- Fentanyl
- Heroin
- Hydrocodone (Vicodin)
- Morphine
- Codeine
- Other synthetic opioids

Our Medication-Assisted Approach to Recovery
Trying to tough out withdrawal rarely works, because the physical agony overrides willpower every time. Medication-Assisted Treatment removes that barrier so the rest of recovery becomes possible.
Our MAT program uses FDA-approved medications, including methadone and suboxone, matched to your tolerance and your goals rather than to whatever we happen to stock. Stabilizing your body is what gives your mind room to work.
Around the medication, you get:
- Daily medical supervision from addiction medicine physicians
- One-on-one behavioral therapy
- Group education and peer support
- Coordinated case review, so every provider treating you knows where you stand
How Methadone Can Help Your Body Adjust
Patients describe it as finally taking a full breath. Once your dose is properly adjusted, the panic drops out of the morning and the constant calculation stops.
Methadone is a full opioid agonist, which is why it holds up against the high tolerance heavy fentanyl use builds. It has decades of clinical evidence behind it and remains the strongest option for long-term or high-tolerance opioid use.
For a lot of our Suffolk patients, that stability is measured in practical terms:
- Making a 6:00 AM start at the warehouses off Route 58 or the Port 460 corridor
- Driving the 58 or 460 without white-knuckling it
- Being present at home instead of managing a schedule around getting sick
- Holding onto a job, a license, or custody
Your physician monitors you continuously and adjusts your dose until you are comfortable, safe, and moving forward.
How Our Counselors Support Your Long-Term Success
While MAT handles your brain chemistry, therapy handles your life. At Affinity Healthcare Group, expert behavioral health counseling is mandatory in our program because it is essential for teaching you how to live a life without substances.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBT is all about rewiring your brain. Your therapist will help you identify the specific situations, people, or emotions that trigger your desire to use. From there, you will practice tangible, everyday coping mechanisms to deal with those triggers in a healthy way.
Reality-Based Therapy
Reality-Based Therapy asks you to look honestly at your life right now. We help you evaluate whether your current actions are fulfilling your basic human needs for love, power, and freedom, guiding you to make daily choices that align with the person you want to become.
Motivational Interviewing
No one can force you to stay in recovery; you have to want it. Motivational Interviewing is a conversational method where your counselor helps you unearth your own deep-seated reasons for getting clean, building a strong internal foundation to rely on when times get tough.
Solution-Focused Counseling
Instead of focusing heavily on past trauma, Solution-Focused Counseling looks ahead to the future. We help you identify the personal strengths you already possess and map out a practical, achievable plan to reach your specific goals.

Why People Come to Us for Judgment-Free Recovery Care
Suffolk is Virginia’s largest city by land area, and that geography is the biggest obstacle to daily treatment here. From downtown it is about thirty minutes east on Route 58 through Bowers Hill and onto I-64 to our Military Highway exit. From North Suffolk, I-664 south takes about the same.
Our 5:30 AM window exists for that drive, since an 8:00 open does not work for a Whaleyville commuter. If Bowers Hill is your side of town, our Chesapeake clinic is likely the shorter drive, and anyone crossing the Monitor-Merrimac is closer to Newport News.
What sets Affinity apart:
- Same-day starts. Same-day medication, same-day transfers, and weekend intakes. Your window of readiness does not have to survive a waitlist.
- Transportation help. If getting to that first appointment is the thing standing in the way, we help arrange the ride.
- Insurance accepted. Virginia Medicaid, Medicare, and most commercial plans, so cost is not the reason you stop.
- Both medications. Methadone and Suboxone, chosen against your history rather than a default.
- Real distance from home. In Driver, Holland, or Whaleyville, everyone knows everyone. Dosing at a Norfolk clinic keeps your treatment separate from your community, and federal privacy rules keep it separate from everyone else.
- One coordinated team. Physicians, nurses, and counselors review your progress together instead of in isolation.
Clear Answers To Guide Your Next Steps
Can I get to the clinic from Suffolk without a car?
It is difficult at dosing hours. Suffolk Transit connects to Hampton Roads Transit at Chesapeake Square and Northgate Commerce, but those connections do not run at 5:30 AM. Call us before you rule treatment out, since transportation assistance is part of what we do for admissions.
How soon can I earn take-home doses in Virginia?
Take-homes are earned, not given on day one. Virginia follows federal opioid treatment program rules that tie the privilege to your time in treatment, your drug screens, and your consistency. Your care team maps that timeline out with you at the start.
I drive for one of the Suffolk distribution centers. Will treatment cost me my CDL?
Methadone does not automatically disqualify you. Many of our patients hold commercial licenses and warehouse jobs throughout treatment, and we can provide documentation of your treatment to support a DOT medical exam.
Will anyone in Suffolk find out I am in treatment?
Your records are protected under 42 CFR Part 2, a federal rule stricter than HIPAA. We cannot release information to an employer, a family member, or anyone else without your written consent, and dosing in Norfolk puts distance between your treatment and your neighborhood.
Can I dose here if I am enrolled at another clinic?
Yes. We handle full transfers from other Hampton Roads programs and can arrange guest dosing if you are traveling through, as long as your home clinic sends the documentation.
A Safer, Brighter Future Starts with Your First Visit
That is the part nobody outside it understands, and it is the first thing treatment gives back. One phone call is enough to find out what the next few weeks could actually look like.
Call 757-275-0594 or request a confidential appointment. We serve Suffolk and Western Tidewater, and we will meet you exactly where you are, at your pace, with no judgment.
